Why Flexibility Matters: How Businesses Grow Within Serviced Offices
Month: April 2026

From First Desk to Third Office: How Flexible Workspace Supports Real Growth
One of the biggest advantages of a serviced office isn’t always obvious on day one. It’s not just about having a professional place to work, it’s about having the freedom to adapt as your business evolves without the disruption, cost or long‑term commitment of a traditional lease.
Over the past few months at Clavering House and our sister site, The Corner, we’ve seen this flexibility make a real difference for businesses at every stage of their journey.
Growth Doesn’t Stand Still
Businesses don’t grow in neat, predictable steps. They expand, restructure, test new ideas and sometimes change direction altogether. That’s why flexibility isn’t simply a “nice to have”, it’s essential.
Recently, we’ve supported businesses as they’ve:
- Moved from a virtual office into their first physical workspace
- Started small, then expanded into a larger office as teams grew
- Progressed through multiple offices over time
- Taken on additional space alongside an existing office as needs change
- Moved between buildings to find a setup better suited to their next phase
Each journey looks different, but the underlying need is the same: the ability to adapt without starting from scratch.
The Value of Growing Without Disruption
In a traditional office lease, growth often comes with disruption. A move can involve:
- New contracts and legal costs
- Time spent setting up and reconfiguring space
- Disruption to teams and day‑to‑day operations
- The risk of committing to too much, or too little, space
With a serviced office, that process is far more straightforward. Businesses can expand, downsize or relocate quickly, often without leaving the environment they already know. That continuity helps teams stay focused on their work rather than the logistics of a move.
Flexibility Across Two Locations
Having access to both Clavering House and The Corner allows us to offer a variety of workspace options within the same network. This gives businesses room to grow without the friction of starting somewhere new.
This means businesses can:
- Move into a larger office without leaving their existing community
- Choose between different layouts, styles and building environments
- Scale at a pace that suits their business, not their lease
It’s not about fitting your business into a fixed space. It’s about the space adapting to you.
Designed to Support Real Business Journeys
Flexible workspace works best when it reflects how businesses actually operate. Some start with a virtual presence before taking their first office. Others grow gradually, while some need to scale quickly as opportunities arise.
What we’ve seen recently is a clear example of how flexibility supports each stage of growth, without unnecessary disruption.
Thinking About Your Next Step?
Whether you’re just starting out, growing your team or reassessing your current space, having the freedom to adapt can make all the difference.
If you’d like to explore office space at Clavering House or The Corner, we’d be happy to talk through your options and help you find a solution that works for you now, and continues to support your business as it grows. Feel free to get in touch to arrange a viewing or an informal chat.
From Blank Space to Thriving Studio: 11 Years of Sarah Deane Photography
Month: April 2026

This year marks an impressive milestone for one of our long-standing tenants, Sarah Deane Photographic, who celebrates 11 years of running her photography studio from Clavering House.
Sarah Deane moved her business into the building in February 2015, transforming what was previously a storage space into a fully functioning photographic studio. Starting with a completely blank canvas (and over 25 litres of white paint!), she created the clean, timeless infinity backdrop that continues to define her work today.
What makes this transformation particularly impressive is just how much vision it required. Converting a basic, unused space into a professional studio environment is no small task, but Sarah saw the potential immediately and built something that has stood the test of time.
Over the past decade, that original setup has evolved into a busy and well-established studio, particularly known for high-quality professional headshots. Her work has supported individuals at every stage of their careers, from graduates and entrepreneurs to senior leaders and established teams.
Clients travel to the studio from across the North East, Scotland and Yorkshire, with Sarah working alongside organisations including John Lewis, Emirates, Barratt Homes, Newcastle Building Society and Citizens Advice. It’s a testament not only to the quality of her work, but also to the experience she creates for every client who walks through the door.
More than just a place to take photographs, the studio has become a space where individuals and brands are captured in a relaxed and supportive environment. For many clients, particularly those who may not feel naturally comfortable in front of the camera, this approach makes all the difference and is a key reason they return time and again. You can contact Sarah to chat through her process before you book, to make sure you feel confident and comfortable.
Being based in Newcastle city centre has also played an important role in the studio’s success. With excellent transport links and a central location that’s easy for clients to access, Clavering House has provided a practical and professional base for Sarah Deane Photographic to grow over the years.

Sarah has chosen to remain at Clavering House not only because the space suits her business, but also for its central location and the sense of community within the building.
“The support from reception and building management has been an important part of my business and the reason I have stayed and plan to stay for so long.”
It’s always rewarding to see businesses grow and establish themselves within the building, and Sarah’s journey is a great example of what can be achieved with the right space, the right environment, and a clear vision.
Stories like Sarah’s are a reminder that while the space itself is important, it’s the people within it that bring it to life.
If, like Sarah, you’re looking for a professional, well-located base for your business, you can view our current availability here or get in touch to arrange a viewing.
